Advocacy Services Assistant – $18.04/hr

Hours of work per week: Approximately 10-15

The GSA is currently seeking a graduate student to fill the position of Graduate Student Advocate at the GSA Advocacy Centre. Reporting to the Student Advocacy Coordinator, the Advocate helps students who find themselves in difficult situations related to academics by accurately identifying their needs and executing the necessary course of action.

* To represent students in disciplinary meetings and hearings
* To facilitate discussion and negotiation between students and members of the Concordia community
* To review, edit, and process student requests
* To assists and represent students who are being treated unfairly or are victims of harassment and/or discrimination
* To assist and advise students on University procedures, rules and regulations
* To assist in promoting the services of the Centre to Graduate students
* To contribute to larger projects
* To perform other clerical duties

Essential Requirements
* Superior listening and communication skills, both written and verbal
* Ability to handle pressure and difficult interpersonal situations
* A strong knowledge of Concordia’s Code of Conduct (Academic)
* A strong knowledge of Concordia’s Code of Rights and Responsibilities
* A strong knowledge of all of Concordia’s regulations and policies
* Strong problem solving skills
* Knowledge of the CSU and its services
* Knowledge of the rules of natural law
* Able to take initiative and work independently
* Strong organizational skills
* Ability to work with and represent the full spectrum of diversity within the Concordia community.
* Computer literate
* Internal candidates shall have preference according to the Collective Agreement

* French or Mandarin language skills are primary assets.
* Arabic, Hindi/Urdu or other languages are secondary assets
* Any training, certificate, or education related to the functions of the role
* Relevant experience is highly desirable
