Tuesday September 18 – 4:00pm – 6:00pm at McGill SSMU Clubs Lounge 3480 McTavish – 4th floor (map)
Our 2012-2013 tuition is lower because last spring, Québec students went on strike, took to the streets by the tens of thousands, blocked banks and bridges, and fought with the police. In the face of constant and escalating state violence, students created a social crisis that has led to the defeat of the governing Liberal Party, and to the cancellation of its planned tuition hike.
How should the history of this strike be written? What is at stake in claiming victory, or in calling for continued struggle?
What challenges await the movement? And as students, how can we organize ourselves to confront these effectively and with renewed militancy?
Whether you’re new to Québec or have been taking the streets here since February or earlier, join strike organizers from McGill and Concordia universities, and Jérémie Bédard-Wien of the executive committee of CLASSE, for an informal discussion.
