The GSA has a number of standing committees in its structure that pay special attention to a variety of issues from on-campus sustainability to overseeing GSA policies. These committees are made up of directors and executives and are determined at the first council meeting of the year (June).

Below you’ll find details on the structures and a brief description of each standing committee.

“Oversees all the Internal hiring not covered by the Collective Agreement pertaining to The GSA unless stipulated otherwise” (Article IX:1)

This committee shall be composed of:

  • The President;
  • The VP External;
  • Four (4) members of the council, from different faculties, appointed by Council;
  • One GSA Staff member to act as a non-voting member and uphold union standards.

Current Members of the Committee:

“Oversees all the changes to any regulations/policies pertaining to The GSA including changes to The By-Laws & all other policies in effect unless stipulated otherwise.” (Article XI:2)

This committee shall be composed of:

  • The President;
  • The Vice President Internal;
  • The Vice President Academic/Advocacy;
  • Four (4) members of the council, from different faculties, appointed by Council.

Current Members of the Committee:

Prepares and proposes the annual budget of the GSA for approval and/or amendment to Council.” (Article XI:3)

This committee shall be composed of:

  • The President;
  • The Vice President Internal;
  • The Vice President Academic/Advocacy;
  • Four (4) members of the Council, from different faculties.

“Interviews and considers applicants for various university committees and bodies excluding the Senate and Board of Governors, unless a vacancy occurs.” (Article XI:4)

This committee shall be composed of:

  • The Vice President Academic/Advocacy;
  • The Communications & Outreach Manager;
  • Four (4) members of the council, from different faculties.

Current Members of the Committee:

“Adjudicates and is the highest and final authority on all issues pertaining to Annual General Elections, and By-Elections of GSA conforming to the General By-Laws, Election Regulations & referenda policies of the GSA” (Article XI:5)

This committee shall be composed of:

  • A Legal Professional (Lawyer or Notary) to chair the committee as a non-voting member, appointed by Council for a three (3) years term;
  • Five (5) Members of the Association not Elected to any office of GSA or an employee of the GSA, including the Chair and minute taker of Council.

This committee is responsible for organizing and preparing student-facing reports for the yearly General Assembly.

This committee is composed of:

  • 2 executives;
  • one staff member;
  • 4 directors.

This committee is responsible for evaluating student life, pitching event ideas for students, and ensuring the social well-being of graduate students at Concordia University.

This committee is composed of:

  • Vice-President Mobilization;
  • Vice-President External;
  • 2 Directors.

 

The role of the committee is to provide council of directors with an action plan for the year to be approved in the August council of directors meeting. The plan must meet the requirements set out in the GSA Sustainability Policy.

This committee shall be composed of:

  • Vice-President Internal;
  • Vice-President Academic & Advocacy;
  • VP External;
  • a minimum of two council members;
  • one GSA staff member.
